Work on the Altza station of the Donostialdea Metro will begin next summer

05/16/2012

This coming summer, the Basque Government will begin construction work on the new Altza station, included in the Herrera - Altza stretch of the future Donostialdea Metro. The project will have an execution period of 31 months, a budget of 34.5 million euros and may be completed for the second half of 2015. This action is driven and funded entirely by the Basque Government.

The new Herrera - Altza stretch is 1,040 metres long, of which 830 are tunnelled. The new station will be located on Paseo Félix Iranzo and will be built at a depth of 28 metres. It will have two halls and two accesses that will lead to Larratxo and Arriberri.

The Donostialdea Metro is an unprecedented railway operation driven by the Basque Government Department of Transport; it includes five new stations in San Sebastian city centre (Bentaberri-Universidad, Matía-Antiguo, Centro-La Concha, Easo and Morlans), as well as in Intxaurrondo, Altza or Riberas de Loiola. It also includes new infrastructure in Lasarte-Oria, Errenteria, Hondarribia, Aeropuerto and Irun.
