70% of Basque citizens in favour of the Basque Y

Due to the next May 27 elections to the Basque Assembly, the consultancy firm Quor has brought out a research in order to find out Basque population's main worries. The research, published last weekend in newspapers DEIA, Noticias de Gipuzkoa and Noticias de Álava, shows that 70% of Basque citizens support the construction of the Basque high-speed rail. Therefore, Basque society is mainly in favour of the so-called Basque Y.
In Bizkaia, for example, 71% of the citizens is in favour of the Basque Y, which would link Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz. On the other hand, 18% of those polled have no concrete opinion on the matter, whereas only 11% oppose the project and support other mobility solutions. Besides, citizens put an average mark of 6.3 to the existing bus, rail, tube and tram networks, their quality and frequency.
According to the poll, in Gipuzkoa 68% are for the new Basque railway network, whereas only 17% are against. Likewise, 15% did not express their support or refusal of the project. Furthermore, a third of those polled is afraid that the building works could suffered terrorist or other similar attacks.
Finally, 75% of those polled in Alava think that the high-speed rail is a good opportunity for the region to develop economically. In this sense, 66% support the Basque Y and only 20% are against.
