The Basque Government awards construction works of the Basque Y section Beasain East

The Basque Government has awarded the construction works of the Beasain East section at 38,434,712 Euro. The stretch is part of the New Basque Railway Section in Gipuzkoa, and with the new award, two are the sections undergoing construction works in Gipuzkoa, whose development corresponds to the Basque Government. The tender award amounts to and the time limit to finish the works is 32 months. Works are expected to be finished by the end of the summer.

The section will be operating in Beasain and Ordizia and continue westwards through the already-under-construction tunnel between Ordizia and Itsasondo.

Most of the section that is 2,159-m in length will run through tunnels. 91 percent, to be precise -1,968-m. The rest consists of two bridges over Usurbe and Mariaratz streams, 60 and 106 metres respectively and 25 metres in the open air, which is nearly 1.5 percent of the section.

The double track-standard gauge line has a 4.7-m distance between axles. The maximum slope in this section will be 12.19 thousandth -maximum permitted in freight transport, 15 thousandth.

As in the rest of the New Basque Railway Network, the new routes have been designed for mixed use, that is passenger and freight transport, along a double track-standard gauge.
