04/30/2012

Adif (which depends on the Ministry of Public Works) has completed the excavation of the upper part of the Achetarri tunnel, on the Aramaio - Arrasate/Mondragón stretch of the Vitoria-Gasteiz - Bilbao - Donostia-San Sebastian High Speed Line.

The tunnel, which runs between the towns of Aramaio (Alava) and Arrasate/Mondragón (Gipuzkoa), is 550 metres long, including the artificial tunnels at both ends, and has a cross section of 85 square metres designed for a double international gauge track.

Aramaio - Arrasate/Mondragón Stretch

This stretch is 3.3 kilometres long and is completed with the construction of a viaduct over the A-2620 road (1,392 metres), the Echevarri viaduct (307 metres), the Achetarri tunnel (550 metres) and the Train Overtaking and Parking Post (PAET) of Aramaio.

Work is currently undergoing on 12 stretches, equivalent to over 60% of the route not including access to the two Basque capitals on the Vitoria-Gasteiz - Bilbao branch. To this we must add the stretches of: Arrazua ? Ubarrundia - Legutiano II, 5.2 kilometres long, and Durango - Abadiño, 3.5 kilometres long, which have been completed.
