05/21/2012
Adif (dependent on the Ministry of Public Works) has completed the construction of the Gabaundi viaduct (223 metres), on the Arrasate/Mondragón - Elorrio stretch of the Vitoria-Gasteiz - Bilbao - Donostia-San Sebastian High Speed Line (HSL).
The viaduct over the Gabaundi stream consists of three decks: one that will hold an international gauge, two-way track towards Bilbao, 14 metres wide; and two single tracks, each of 8.5 metres, for the junction of the branches that divert traffic towards Donostia-San Sebastian. Each deck is supported by four piles with a maximum height of 41 metres.
Arrasate/Mondragón - Elorrio Stretch
The Arrasate/Mondragón - Elorrio stretch is 4.4 kilometres long and 80% runs underground through the Karraskain (437 metres) and Udalaitz (3,185 metres) tunnels. The route is completed with the Kobate and Gabaundi viaducts.
After completion of work on the Arrasate/Mondragón - Elorrio stretch, and in order to fully integrate the infrastructure into the environment, 250,572 square metres will be replanted with hydroseeding and 39,852 local trees.
