Excavation on the Galdakao tunnel, on the Lemoa - Galdakao stretch, completed

Adif (company depending on the Ministry of Public Works) has completed the excavation of the Galdakao tunnel, included in the Lemoa - Galdakao stretch of the Vitoria-Gasteiz - Bilbao - Donostia-San Sebastian High Speed Line (HSL). The tunnel is 1,830 metres long with a cross section of 85 square metres and is designed for a double international gauge track.
It has been excavated with the new Austrian method. This construction procedure includes a first excavation phase on the upper section, a second phase on the lower section and the phases of the support tasks and executing the inverted vault.
Tramo Lemoa - Galdakao
The Lemoa - Galdakao stretch, which is 5.4 kilometres long, includes the construction of the Bistibieta (180 metres), Ibaizabal (450 metres) and Galdakao (230 metres) viaducts, all under execution. It also includes the construction of three tunnels: Galdakao, the artificial Galdakao tunnel and Bekea; therefore a total of 2,401 metres of the route, 44.4%, runs underground. The stretch is completed with the construction of the Amorebieta-Etxano Train Overtaking and Parking Post (PAET).
