Means of transport to carry passengers
The railway is the axis of the all-embracing transport system that is being constructed in the Basque Country. Moreover, the Basque Y together with the tram, tube and suburban train, bets on this means of transport and the sustainable mobility.
High-speed in the Basque Country
The high-speed network in the Basque Country is to channel most part of the medium and long distance trips by giving boost to the use of a modern public means of transport, which at the same time respects the environment. At present, 47,000 journeys take place between the main centres of population (Metropolitan Bilbao, Donostialdea and Vitoria-Gasteiz).
The tube in Europe
Travelling from the city centres of Bilbao or Vitoria-Gasteiz to Paris without any connection or departing from Donostia-San Sebastián to London with a connection in the French capital will be in prospect over the following years.
Thanks to the Basque Y the Basque Country will be part of the Trans-European high-speed network, which nowadays operates as an official tube service at continental level.
